Metal Roof? Here Are Some Signs You Need To Call A Roofer

Metal roofs are known to be durable and resistant to damage. However, they are not impervious to damage and wear, so sometimes even metal roofs need a little attention from a roofer. Here are some signs that it's time to have a roofer come take a look at your metal roof and perhaps make a few repairs.

Leaks or moisture in the attic.

Leaks are less common with metal roofs because there are fewer panels in a metal roof than there are shingles in a shingle roof. This simply means there are fewer seams and fewer spots where water can leak in. However, if a seam becomes lifted due to ice accumulation or after a tree branch falls on the roof, then a little water may seep in through that seam. If you see spots of moisture on your attic beams or if the attic just feels a bit moist overall, you need to have a roofer out. They may need to just bend the seam back into place, or they might need to replace a whole panel.

Lifted panels and seams.

If you can see some or all of your roof from the ground, then take a close look at the seams and panels. Do any of the seams look uneven or bent? You should have them looked at ASAP, because even if they are not leaking yet, they will soon. You should also call a roofer if one of the panels appears to be lifted along its edge. Panels should all rest evenly on the roof, so if one is higher than the others, it has lifted up and needs to be re-positioned.

Dents from hail.

After a hail storm, it's always a good idea to have a roofing contractor come look at your roof. This is because not all damage can be seen from the ground. But if you can actually see dents from the ground, that is even more evidence that you need to call a roofing contractor. Hail has to be quite large before it will dent a metal roof, so this won't happen too often. But when it does, the dented areas are prone to rust and corrosion, so you really need to have them pounded out and painted over.

With a metal roof, you should not have to call a roofer for repairs very often, but this may be a call you need to make now and then.

About Me

Like the Sky, But on Your Home

Look up. What do you see? If you're inside, you'll see a ceiling. If you're outside, you will see the sky. Well, roofs are kind of like the sky. They're what forms the top of your building. Unlike the sky, however, the roof on a building can be constructed from a number of materials, including shingles, metal, slate, and tile. Roofs need repairs now and then, too, which isn't really a quality of the sky. If you would like to learn more about these amazing roofs and the people who construct them, we invite you to check out this blog about roofers.
