Little Roofing Problems That You Don't Want To Brush Off

It can be tempting to try to brush off what may seem to be small problems with your roof. However, when proper roofing repair is not done right away, small annoying problems can turn into expensive problems. Therefore, you will want to make sure that you are well aware of when it is time to call for roofing repair of some of the smaller issues that others might overlook. Here are some of those little problems to keep an eye out for.

Bent Or Missing Flashing Around Vents Or Chimneys

There are likely to be some vents or chimneys coming out of the top of your home. Anything that protrudes out of the roof will have flashing go around it. Flashing is generally thin pieces of metal that lay over the edge of the shingles and up over the edge of the chimney, vent, or pipe. The purpose of the flashing is to stop water from getting under the shingles. If the flashing is bent or even completely missing, you could end up with a lot of wet, moldy roofing problems. Those problems will cost a lot more to repair than it would cost to simply have the flashing replaced.

Missing Shingles

Too many people will make the mistake of assuming that if there is just a couple of shingles missing from their roof that there is not much that they have to worry about. The thing is, even just one missing shingle can be enough to cause a lot of expensive problems. This is because once the shingle is gone from the roof, the roofing paper that was under it is exposed. As the rain and wind beat against the roofing paper, it will start to rip, exposing the wood under it. That wood can become so damaged from long-term exposure to water that it swells, becomes moldy, and even allows water to make its way into your home. Should you notice any shingle missing or even just starting to come loose, you will want to get in touch with a roofing contractor.

Should you experience either of those small roofing problems or something else, it is always in your best interest to make an appointment for a roofing contractor to come out to your home. This way, they will be able to see the condition of your roof firsthand, which will allow them to give the best recommendation for what needs to be done with the roof.

About Me

Like the Sky, But on Your Home

Look up. What do you see? If you're inside, you'll see a ceiling. If you're outside, you will see the sky. Well, roofs are kind of like the sky. They're what forms the top of your building. Unlike the sky, however, the roof on a building can be constructed from a number of materials, including shingles, metal, slate, and tile. Roofs need repairs now and then, too, which isn't really a quality of the sky. If you would like to learn more about these amazing roofs and the people who construct them, we invite you to check out this blog about roofers.
